400 Hz 8-pole crystal filter installed in the Elecraft K3. Works fine. |
29 Nov. 2009 |
Participated in the 2009 CQWW CW Contest in the SOSB/20m LP category.
Operated portable style from the meadows about a mile away from my home
using the Elecraft K3/100 and a simple delta loop antenna. Wow! What a relief! Two S units lower noise level
and a gently sloping terrain made it possible to work more QSO's and multipliers than last year!

28 Nov. 2010 |
Took part in the 2010 CQWW CW Contest in the same category and from the same QTH than last year.
However, I extended my antenna to a 2-ele.-delta-loop. The 20-m-band stayed open for a longer time so I could
improve my claimed score a bit. Overall, it was great fun!

27 Nov. 2011 |
I operated the CQWW CW Contest 2011 from a portable QTH, this year opting for the SOSB/10m LP category
due to promising sunspot numbers. I used the Elecraft K3/100 and a homemade 4 element Yagi which was tested
for the first time in this contest. 996 QSO's, 33 CQ-Zones and 124 Countries were worked resulting in a
claimed score of 357k points. - 10 m came to life, and what fun it was!

25 Nov. 2012 |
For this years CQWW CW Contest I again opted for the SOSB/10m LP category using the same setup like the
year before and hoping for good condx. However the sun had another opinion - at least on Saturday. A k-index of 4
almost switched off the northern latitude paths. Fortunately Sunday was much better. After all I could make
752 QSO's with 33 CQ-Zones and 109 Countries resulting in a claimed score of 259k points. Finally it was fun!

Roman, DL3TU, and me, we will be active as HB0/DL3TU and HB0/DL4AAE on the second or third full weekend of
September 2013. Weather permitting, we will attempt to operate from the summit Augstenberg (2359 meters A.S.L.)
using CW only on the higher bands with an emphasis on Asia. QSL via our home callsigns, direct or by the Bureau.
For updates and details, visit Roman's Web page.

I will give a lecture (in German) on circuit simulation using SPICE on the Amateur Radio Fair
HAM RADIO 2013 in Friedrichshafen on Saturday,
29 June 2013 at 11.30 h.

19 Aug. 2013 |
On Sunday, 18 Aug. 2013 Roman, DL3TU, and me activated the nature reserve "Schoenbuch"
(DLFF-108) for a few hours. We were QRV simultaneously on 21 MHz (DL3TU/p) and 14 MHz (DL4AAE/p) using an Elecraft
K3 and a delta loop antenna at each station. With the antennas 50 m apart we had absolutely no mutual
interferences - even without additional filters which we built just in case! Far away from any man-made noise
sources it was fun to listen to the quiet bands. The operation on 20 m resulted in 117 QSO's out of 26 DXCC
entities. More details and pictures can be found on
Roman's Web page.

25 Sep. 2013 |
Roman and me were QRV as HB0/DL3TU/P and HB0/DL4AAE/P on September 22nd and 23rd from the top of
Augstenberg, 2359 meters A.S.L., SOTA ref. HB0/LI-004, Principality of Liechtenstein.
We had big fun to combine hiking and operating from this special location.
For more details, visit Roman's Web page.
TNX for the QSO's!

28 Nov. 2013 |
For this years CQWW CW Contest I again opted for the SOSB/10m LP category using the same setup like the two
preceding years and hoping for good condx as in the weeks before the contest. This came
true and I experienced exceptional propagation with some nice long path QSO's, for example KH6LC via the South Pole
at 0940 UTC! In the end 844 QSO's with 37 CQ-Zones and 122 Countries are in the log resulting in a claimed score
of 314k points. That was fun!

05 June 2014 |
Roman, DL3TU, and me, we will once again be active as HB0/DL3TU/p and HB0/DL4AAE/p in the second half of September
or early October 2014. Weather permitting, we will attempt to operate from the summit Augstenberg (2359 meters A.S.L.)
using CW only on the higher bands with an emphasis on Asia. QSL via our home callsigns, direct or by the Bureau.
For updates and details, visit Roman's Web page.

Roman and me were once again QRV as HB0/DL3TU/p and HB0/DL4AAE/p September 27th to 29th from the summit Augstenberg,
2359 m A.S.L. We ran two K3/100 simultaneously powered by 60 Ah lead-acid batteries. However, this time we designed,
built and used VDAs covering four bands. The total weight was approx. 70 kg, which we hand carried to the summit.
Together we logged 3000+ QSOs in these three days. So all in all it was fun! For more details, visit
Roman's Web page.

02 Dec. 2014 |
For the fourth consecutive year I took part in the SOSB/10m LP category of the CQWW CW Contest using my
trusty K3 and the homemade 4-Ele.-Yagi. CONDX were fantastic on ten! I achieved my best score in this category ever
(361k claimed) first time braking the 1k QSO barrier and only missing CQ zones 1 and 31! What a exciting weekend!

06 Oct. 2015 |
Roman and me were once again QRV as HB0/DL3TU/p and HB0/DL4AAE/p October 2nd and 3rd from the Augstenberg summit,
2359m a.s.l. We ran two K3/100 simultaneously, powered by 60 Ah batteries. Again we used our homemade VDAs covering
the bands 17m, 15m, 12m and 10m. The total weight was approx. 70 kg which we hand carried to the
summit and back. Although the antennas collapsed in wind gusts several times, we managed to log about 1600 QSOs during
15 hours of operation. Once again we enjoyed hiking and operating from this special location. For more details,
visit Roman's Web page. TNX for the QSOs!

01 Dec. 2015 |
For this years CQWW CW Contest I opted for the SOSB/15m LP category due to lower solar flux numbers.
I operated field day style from a hilltop with very low ambient noise level. I used an in-line array of two
homemade VDA's (TNX DL3TU for loaning one on short notice!) switchable between eastern and western beam direction.
Although the antennas collapsed in wind gusts several times, it was fun to take advantage of their fine F/B ratio.
During 22 hours of operation I could log 692 QSO's with 35 Zones and 109 Countries resulting in a claimed
score of about 219k points.

01 Dec. 2018 |
Another enjoyable CQWW CW Contest weekend! I took part in the SOSB/20m LP category using my trusty K3 and
a switchable array of two delta loops. Fair condx on 20 m allowed me to log 603 QSO's with 31 Zones and 107 Countries.
Big thrill was a call by Uli, ZR2A, giving me that valuable double mult ZS/Zone 38!

30 Nov. 2019 |
To try something new in this year's CQWW CW Contest and to have as much fun as possible in this solar
minimum I opted for single band/40m LP. Operating field-day style in the meadows and using a delta loop antenna
the band was so quiet that it sounded like 20 m. Sunday night I could work all continents within a few minutes.
846 QSO's with 29 Zones and 113 Countries result in a claimed score of 195k points - even more than last year as
SOSB/20m!

07 Dec. 2020 |
For this year's CQWW CW Contest I again opted for the SOSB/40m LP category. However, I extended my
antenna to a 2-ele.-delta-loop switchable between eastern and western beam direction. Operating field-day style
I could log 807 QSO's with 28 zones and 88 DXCC entities. Biggest challenge was to dismantle the antenna Monday
night right after the contest as the segments of the fiberglass poles had been frozen into each other...

02 Dec. 2021 |
In this year's CQWW CW Contest I again participated in the SOSB/40m LP category operating field-day style
from a hilltop location away from any man-made noise. I could log 810 QSO's with 30 zones and 104 DXCC entities.
Biggest thrill was working KL7 and KH6 as two double multipliers one hour after sunrise...

13 July 2024 |
In the 2023 CQWW CW Contest solar sunspot cycle 25 was in full swing and 10 meters was wide open.
So I opted for for the SOSB/10m LP category operating field-day style and using our trusty 4 element homemade Yagi.
I could log 813 QSO's in 34 zones and 112 DXCC entities giving a final score of 268k points (after log checking).
Biggest thrill was working XE from zone 6 as a double multiplier 10 minutes before the band closed...

11 April 2025 |
Had lots of fun operating this years CQWW CW Contest from abroad using the call
OV7M. Incredible condx on ten.
I Used an Elecraft K3 and a VDA fixed to north. Antenna survived 8 Bft gusts of wind.
Maybe it was mounted too low...
